Adriel’s practice focuses on complex corporate and commercial litigation and arbitration, many of which are multi-jurisdictional in nature.  He has substantial experience in a broad range of disputes, including shareholder and joint venture disputes, contractual disputes, fraud and asset recovery, contentious insolvency and restructuring matters, as well as arbitration-related litigations.

Adriel represents clients in all stages of the dispute cycle, from giving pre-action strategic advice, seeking and resisting urgent interim relief, to enforcement and execution.

Adriel’s recent experience includes:-

  • Representing an ultra-high-net-worth Chinese investor in resisting an application to set aside an HKIAC award concerning a USD27 billion plus claim in damages.  This matter involves one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges and parallel contempt proceedings in Hong Kong.
  • Representing the ex-CEO of a Nasdaq-listed Chinese automation corporation in defending a USD150 million plus trust claim, and resisting an injunction application designed to impede a buyer consortium’s privatisation bid.
  • Representing a renowned HK-listed Chinese sportswear brand in setting aside a HKD195 million statutory demand, and in related High Court proceedings.
  • Representing a major Chinese property developer in resisting applications to set aside HKIAC awards worth over USD160 million, involving proceedings in Hong Kong, BVI, and Mainland China, and involving multiple interim applications such as the restraining of parallel proceedings.
  • Representing the HK-listed subsidiary of a state-owned investment firm in obtaining a USD100 million plus summary judgment against one of the largest Chinese private conglomerates.
  • Representing an ultra-high-net-worth Chinese businessman in pursuing defrauded proceeds converted into commercial properties, including numerous injunction and Norwich Pharmacal applications, as well as intervening in 9 separate proceedings and opposing charging orders sought against the fraudsters’ assets.
  • Representing a minority shareholder of an ASX-listed mining company in obtaining an injunction to prohibit an ultra vires declaration of dividends designed to entrench control of majority shareholders.
  • Representing Century Sunshine Group Holdings Limited (HKEx 509) and Rare Earth Magnesium Technology Group Holdings Limited (HKEx 601) and their BVI / HK subsidiaries on their respective restructurings, involving multiple Hong Kong schemes and a Singapore Pre-pack Scheme, as well as the dismissal of a contested winding up petition in parallel proceedings.
  • Representing a joint venture company involving the world’s largest crane and steel structure manufacturer in pursuing its ex-CEO for breach of fiduciary duties and its minority shareholder for misappropriation of assets, and resisting an application to stay the action in favour of arbitration.
  • Representing beneficiaries to a family trust comprising a reputable global cement business valued in excess of USD100 million in a trust dispute spanning Hong Kong, Singapore, the UK, Australia, and the Cayman Islands.
