“Parental Responsibility: Best Interests of Children on Divorce”  talk by The Honourable Matthew Cheung Kin-chung GBS, JP, Secretary for Labour and Welfare presented by the Hong Kong Family Law Association (HKFLA)

“Parental Responsibility: Best Interests of Children on Divorce” was the title of the talk delivered by The Honourable Matthew Cheung Kin-chung GBS, JP, Secretary for Labour and Welfare to members and guests of the Hong Kong Family Law Association (HKFLA).

Gall partner and Secretary of the HKFLA Caroline McNally attended the talk along with a packed audience of judges, lawyers, social workers and other professionals involved in family disputes.  The talk focused on the background to and progress of the proposed legislation to implement the recommendations of the Law Reform Commission Report on Child Custody and Access.  A draft Children Proceedings (Parental Responsibility) Bill is currently in its public consultation phase until 25 March 2016.  It will be the subject of a special meeting at LegCo on Monday 22 February 2016 at 10.45am.  Details of the proposed legislation can be found by clicking here.  Members of the public are encouraged to comment and to join the LegCo session the details of which are here.
