Gall supports the official launch of Women in Law Hong Kong

A number of Hong Kong’s leading law firms joined forces to launch a new and exciting legal community – Women in Law Hong Kong (WILHK). Providing a networking platform for private practice lawyers, in-house counsel and other legal professionals in Hong Kong, WILHK also aims to  encourage collaboration, integration and education amongst law firms and in-house counsel in Hong Kong; foster the development and retention of women in the legal profession; and bring to the forefront of the industry issues affecting women working in the legal profession in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong is an international law capital of Asia, with more than 800 solicitor firms, 8,000 lawyers with Hong Kong practicing certificates and 1,400 registered foreign lawyers. As Hong Kong is a leading international financial centre there is a growing demand for wider networking amongst legal professionals, development of best practices, and encouragement of collaboration amongst Hong Kong law firms and in-house counsel.

WILHK’s committee currently includes representatives from Ashurst, Clifford Chance, Gall, Goldman Sachs, Harneys, Herbert Smith Freehills, Hogan Lovells, King & Wood Mallesons, Latham & Watkins, Oldham Li & Nie, Paul Hastings, Paul, Weiss and Simmons & Simmons.

To celebrate the launch of WILHK, a cocktail party was hosted at Cipriani on Monday, 15 June, with guest speaker Gill Meller, Legal Director & Secretary of MTR Corporation Limited.

With the ongoing support of the firms on the committee, as well as women’s NGOs like The Women’s Foundation, WILHK aims to bring to the forefront issues affecting women working in the legal profession in Hong Kong. WILHK will also encourage collaboration, education, exchange of ideas, friendship and mutual support amongst its members.
